How is the M.V.P. Vertical Jump Program Different?
With numerous vertical jump programs on the market it is very difficult to determine which vertical jump program to try. Many athletes will end up spending hundreds of dollars trying various programs or devices throughout their career in their hope of attaining their goal to jump higher. And that hope is what many programs prey on. They know you want to jump higher and dunk the basketball so they will tell you anything so that you will buy their program. Some products are just flat out outrageous in their claims. Are you really going to double your vertical leap? Maybe if you have a vertical that's less than 20 inches and you have not exercised in the past 10 years. But what if you have a 30 inch vertical jump, are you really going to get a 60 inch vertical? From a 40 inch vertical to an 80? You see where we are going here.
What about plyometric shoes? The plyometric shoes you see are not always the safest option for training as they put undue stress on your Achilles. The shoes claim to fame is to increase your calf muscle strength. Guess what? Only 30% of your vertical jump is based on your calf muscle. So training with the shoes will leave the other 70% of your body untrained and untapped for improving your vertical jump.
There are also many vertical jump e-books out there that promise amazing results. Most of these sites are one page websites, feature Yellow highlighter, and P.S., P.S.S. and P.S.S.S. Run or click as fast as you can away from these sites. These techniques are all about selling the product no matter what they have to say to sell it.
We could go on and on with all the programs out there. Here is what we feel you should look for when determining what vertical jump program you should choose.
- Who is the author of the program? Virtually none of the vertical jump programs out there tell you who wrote the program. They have some cool sounding name but does the person who authored the program have any documented expertise such as a college degree in sports and physiology? Does the author actually train athletes for a living or is the best they come up with some testimonial from a 14 year old kid jumping off a bench to dunk the basketball in a grainy photo. You need to have a program with an vertical jump expert. With a vertical jump expert you'll get an effective program that will actually work and you'll also be doing a program that is safe.
- Is the program comprehensive? Many programs will only attack one part of what helps you jump. If all you do is plyometrics then you are leaving out strength, flexibility, and your core. Some programs have you just go out an jump, jump, jump. Yes, you need jump to get better at it, but if that's all you do repetitively, you are doing a conditioning program and the only reason your vertical will go up is because you are getting in better shape, not becoming more explosive. The M.V.P. Vertical Jump program will develop your explosiveness and you will also get into better shape. The M.V.P. Vertical Jump Program is comprehensive and trains the Core 4 - Strength, Flexibility, Power, and Core.
- Does the program incorporate strength training? Many programs will tell you you don't need special equipment or weights, yet at the end of their program they will tell you you should do some weight training also. They just don't mention that until after you've already purchased their program. Don't fall for the no weight training vertical programs. Why? If you don't increase the strength in your muscles through weight training you simply can't become more explosive. Sure it sounds great, "Add 30 inches to your vertical jump without any weight training" but the old saying applies. "Anything worth having takes hard work" and increasing your vertical jump is going to require hard work. Just remember, all of the programs out there will end up telling you you should do weight training after you get them. We are telling you that up front - IF you want to increase your vertical jump to it's potential.
- How long will training sessions take? No program should ever have you doing training sessions for more than 30-45 minutes and three times per week. The M.V.P. Vertical Jump program stays consistent in the length of the workouts throughout the entire program. You need to become more explosive in your workouts and increasing the length of the workouts is counterproductive to becoming a more explosive jumper. Some programs will take you over an hour to an hour and a half in later weeks to finishing one workout. That is simply too hard on anyones knees and body and the program is now a conditioning program not an explosive program.
